General Summary
- This section should include a longer then usual summary of the plot. Avoiding any significant spoilers is essential. For longer shows, I’m of the opinion that a generalized summary of the first episode might be appropriate. Summaries like ANN are good at avoiding spoilers, but they fail to give you a good sense of what the experience of watching the show is like.
- Ultimately, the method of describing the general plot of the show is up to the author.
Art and Animation
- Art: Talk about how the show looks. How the picture looks.
o Includes Character Design, Background Artwork, and other general external features of the show.
- Animation: How the show moves.
o Of particularly importance for action, but regardless it serves to connect the pieces of any great show.
Character Development and Storyline
- These features are the most essential part of any anime.
- Character Development
o Are characters well developed?
o How memorable are the characters?
o How well do the different characters interact?
- Storyline
o Does the pacing of the show contribute to or inhibit the story?
o Was the story consistently powerful?
o Did the story have any impact or leave any lasting impressions on you?
o Did the ending successfully bring the show to a close?
Music (OPTIONAL)
- Mention who did the music for the show. This includes the OP artist, the ED artist, and the BGM composer. Offering a general opinion on each of these would probably be good.
- More importantly, talk about how the music fit the show. What is important isn’t just who did the music and if it was good, but how suited it was for the anime.
Seiyuu (OPTIONAL)
- Did the seiyuu match their roles well? Were there any particular roles that you felt were extremely well done (such that they improved the series just by their performance)?
- Are there any particularly famous seiyuu? What are some of the other roles they’ve filled?
- If the show was dubbed, was it done well? Did it suck more or less then other dubs?
Final Summary
- Basically this is the last section before the Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down section. Leave the reader with the extra-short version of your review. Make mention of the major points from previous sections.
- Do you recommend it? What makes it worth watching? <Or> What doesn’t make it worth watching?
Two Thumbs Up or Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down or Two Thumbs Down
