Background Info:

 

This series was originally a hentai game, and therefore should be treated as one. In the series there are often nude scenes, (especially the second half of the show) and the main focus of the series is of course surrounded by these horny men and there fantasies with these ladies. There is a plot among the series which is further explained in the review. This series is recommended for 17+ for the nudity but the overall theme of the show. Now without any further ado, my review on Green Green!

Review:

This show is all about Yuusuke Takazaki and his friends Tadatomo Ijuin (fat guy), Hikaru Ichibanboshi (blond guy) and Taizou Tenjin (rice man). Basically the premise of the show is that these two high schools want to merge and form a co-ed school. To “test” this they brought the girls to the guy’s school for a trial period of a month. During this month they would be able to moderate and see if the co-ed school idea would work. As the bus arrived and the door opens, we witness a glowing light and a girl named Idori Chitose appears and jumps right into Yuusuke knocking him out for a short period of time. Midori later tells Yuusuke that “they have finally found each other again” and now they can “be together as they promised each other.” The problem is Yuusuke has no idea what she is talking about and is often confused because of this and now throw in Reika Morimura who is constantly trying to interfere with there relationship telling Midori that there relationship will never work and often tries to set Yuusuke up with another girl, reasons for this are understood later in the series. Now Yuusuke is the only “normal” guy among his friends. Constantly his friends will drag him along on there adventures, such as peeping on the girls during there bath, or using him as bait so they can sneak into the girls dormitory during evening hours. Yuusuke is often placed in awkward situations which were really not his fault but his friends. Each of his friends have unique characteristics. We have Hikaru Ichibanboshi, he is constantly reading this book by the Dr. of “love” and often tries to appeal to the girls using methods found in the book. Then we have Taizou Tenjin, he has a fetish where he loves to smell girls and eat rice, it somehow enables him to eat more and it’s more enjoyable this way… Then there is Tadatomo Ijuin, he is fat guy in the anime series. He is obsessed with large breasts, and therefore he is a huge fan of Chigusa Iino, the school nurse. There are many funny moments throughout the series; most are the interactions between Yuusuke’s friend and the girls. In this one scene they want to get some tits imprint and therefore using a fishhook attempt to pull off a girls shirt (which does of course come off bra and all!) however they get a huge ass beat down making it an unsuccessful attempt. These guys are extremely perverted throughout the show. They sneak in the girls changing room; they watch the girls while they are bathing however the end result is always them getting a beat down afterwards. There are some very odd scenes in the series as well, such as when Tadatomo Ijuin is getting molested by a bear in the woods.  Beneath all the ecchiness of the show there is a plot and that is the interaction between Yuusuke & Midori. The show does not get serious until the end of episode 10 but trust me on this, it’s worth the wait. The last two episodes are truly memorable and not because of the fan service but because the real story is revealed, you may even shed some tears at the end of the series. I suggest that you watch the OVA after the series, after watching the OVA first I originally thought it made more sense, but after finishing the show I can see that the OVA really should be watched after the series.
 

The animation in the show is fantastic! The girls cast is drawn very well, my favorite character would have to be Futaba Kutsuki, she talks big and is often complaining about them having to endure being at the guys school and is constantly complaining until she falls for a character in the series. However, she also has a very kind personality as well and is often suppressing her true feelings. This series has a very unique “crying affect” it literally looks like running waters, this is something I have not seen done in an anime series and yet it seemed to work perfectly. The intro music as well as the ending song is great as well.

 

Final Thoughts:

 

Overall, this series is NOT for everyone. But for those few who do choose to watch it, I highly recommend sticking it through till the end because the ending is just great. I honestly have not seen such a series become so serious at the end and for it work! As I mentioned before I suggest watching the first OVA after the series because it will fit better after viewing the series, however it doesn't matter too much. Thanks to Prons, he found a 10 minute Green Green: Wakaba & Sanae (special)! In this special you see Wakaba & Sanae doing things with each other that would be considered soft porn to say the least. You should watch the series as well as the first OVA prior to watching this special, to feel the full affect! As for Thirteen: Eroltions OVA, all i can say is one word, hentai. This episode should have just been named "Lets see these girls having sex and ice sculptures of them naked of course!" I didn't mind it at all, actually it was rather nice. Ever watch a series and you see some hot female characters and you wish you could see them naked having sex? Well I know I sure have had those momments, that’s why all the Doujin exists right? Anyways this episode is far ecchier then the series and the first OVA hands down. I suggest watching this series after the 10 minute Green Green Special however it doesn't really matter.

 

Green Green 12 episode series:

 

Ecchi Scale: 8.5/10 (What do you expect from an H game turned into a series!?)
Harem Scale: 6.5/10 (It is a good series however; I wish the series had more depth. I felt the ending could have been extended and the series as a whole could have easily have been a 20 or so episode series)
Recommended for: 17+ (The first half of the show doesn't show nudity, however the 2nd half does. But the nudity is never in sexual situations.)

 

First OVA:

Ecchi Scale: 5/10 (Nothing major, panty shots and a normal harem theme of course.)
Harem Scale: 7/10 (It expands on what happens prior to the series; however I still recommend seeing it after the series)

 Recommended for: 13+ (No nudity at all, just panty shot and boob groping)

 

Green Green: Wakaba & Sanae (special)

Ecchi Scale: 9/10 (You see Wakaba sucking "pink spots" on Sanae-chans body)
Harem Scale: 6/10 (Doesn't add to the story of the originally series but was rather fun to watch)
Recommended for: 17+ (There is lesbian interaction in this episode so it for those who do not like yuri, stay away)

Green Green Thirteen: Erolutions OVA
Ecchi Scale: 10/10 (There are sex scenes in this episode, expect everything you see in a hentai episode except private area's are censored. This really shouldn't be considered a harem but rather hentai)
Harem Scale: 6/10 (Well It doesn't add anything to the story and kind of goes against the whole theme of the 12 episode series. All I can say is this, If you like Kutsuki Futaba more then Chitose Midori then you will like this episode more.)

Recommended for: 18+ (There are sex scenes, several in fact. The only thing is that the lower regions are censored..)
