Gunslinger Girl review

This anime is about an organization called Social Welfare Agency, but it’s actually a top secret agency that trains clinically ill little girls to become trained cyborg assassins. The story is actually quite new, and refreshing. But the way they execute it is terrible. It is very touching to hear the stories from the different girls, and how they show that they want to be “normal” girls, or how they love their new and improved life. But for me, the story seemed rushed and never had a true ending that I liked, so that was a downer. The music isn’t all too great. The opening song is OK, and the ending song reminded me of Scarface a bit in the beginning, so I’ll give it a bonus mark for that. You also get to hear a little Beethoven! Woohoo!  The animation is really pretty good. My only beef is with the character designs, even though its well detailed and drawn, I just wish they could have done more mature girl designs, if you get my drift. But, other than that it is awesome.

I had no problems with the dub, not the greatest in my opinion though, haven’t listened to the Japanese audio yet, but I bet it is very good anyway. Overall it’s a pretty decent series, but could’ve been better. That’s just my opinion. You might want to wait for a cheap boxset of this one. But, if you like little girls kicking ass, then pick this up right now!

Pros:

+Animation is nicely done.

+Cool fights and gun battles.

+The characters are very interesting, but they didn’t go into enough detail.

Cons:

-Story and characters not executed properly.

-Ending is crap, should have been a longer series.

-Music isn’t really noticeable.
