Please Teacher! Review:
This anime is about a woman named Mizuho Kazami, who represents the Galaxy Association and her first mission is to observe Earth. When she arrives she is spotted by a soon to be student of hers named Kei Kusanagi. He has a unique illness, where he freezes up and goes unconscious; he calls them “standstills”. The next day at school, a new teacher arrives, Kei realizes it is the alien woman she saw the night before, and they are both forced to get married through a variety of events to keep Mizuho’s identity a secret.
The story may sound far fetched, and truthfully it is. I mean a high school student and a teacher? Come on! It is full of clichés, and lots of “why the hell did that have to happen?!”, but a very good romantic comedy story nonetheless. You can not help it, but relate to the married couple and love them for what they are trying to accomplish together; to be a loving married couple. The comedic parts are mostly left for the sub par OVA episode (it’s great for fan service lovers). The message the story is giving is I think is, that anyone can score with a hot chick on two conditions. If she’s your teacher and an alien. There are many references to sexual material too, but is never over done, and can be quite funny.
The characters are all very interesting, but they distract from the main married couple, and can get annoying at times. All of them are friends of Kei’s. There’s Hyosuke, Koishi, Kaede, Matagu, and Ichigo. Hyosuke is the class clown, who loves the ladies. Koishi is the kind girl who wants a lover. Kaede is the quiet girl with a secret crush. Matagu is the laid back guy who also has a crush. And Ichigo is a mysterious girl with many secrets.
The music is nicely done; both opening and ending songs are great. The tone of the music fits well during what is happening in the story as well.
The animation is one of the best I’ve seen in awhile. Usually the romantic comedy anime’s don’t get the “Awesome Animation Award”, but I am giving it to this one. I love the designs, and backgrounds, all very well done.
There’s only one way to describe the dubs and subs: AMAZING! Most people are annoyed by dubs, but I must vouch for this series dub. As for the sub, it is great as always.
Pros:
+ Animation, deserves the “Awesome Animation Award”.
+ Music, all of it is superb.
+ Characters are likeable, but can get annoying at times during the series.
+ The dub, and sub.
Cons:
- Story is clichéd and full of “I knew that was going to happen, but why?!”.
